Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh Appointed as Next Chief of the Indian Air Force

The Government has appointed Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh as the next Chief of the Indian Air Force. He will take over the role from Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari on September 30, 2024. Air Marshal Singh, currently serving as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, will be promoted to the rank of Air Chief Marshal on the same day.

Born on October 27, 1964, Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh has had a distinguished career in the Air Force. He joined the fighter pilot stream in December 1984 and has served for nearly 40 years in various command, staff, instructional, and foreign roles.

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, and National Defence College, he is a Qualified Flying Instructor and an Experimental Test Pilot. He has flown over 5,000 hours on both fixed-wing and rotary aircraft.

Throughout his career, he has commanded an operational fighter squadron and a frontline air base. He also played a key role as the leader of the MiG-29 Upgrade Project in Russia and was involved in testing India’s Light Combat Aircraft, Tejas. Before becoming Vice Chief, he held several important positions, including Air Defence Commander of the South Western Air Command and Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Air Command.

Air Marshal Singh’s experience and leadership will guide the Indian Air Force in the coming years, continuing its mission to safeguard the nation’s airspace.
